Populations may not actually vary in sex ratio, rather there might be differences in phenology among populations such that males are more active in some populations earlier in the season.

Alternatively it might be that populations differ in their infection with an intracellular endosymbiont which causes sex ratio distortion.  We are currently screening individuals for the presence of  the bacterium Wolbachia.
